Interprofessional CME Seminar for medical and dental faculty and students covering the newest science on oral and systemic connections for overall health because no comprehensive preventive health program is complete without a medical doctor/or primary care provider, a dentist, and a hygienist on the team


Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Understand the composition and function of the oral microbiome and its interplay with systemic health.
  2. Examine the role of periodontal disease in the pathogenesis and control of inflammation.
  3. Understand the importance of orofacial development, airway health, and sleep disorders in pediatric patients.
  4. Gain knowledge of diagnostic methods and screening tools for identifying orofunctional and airway issues in infants and children.
  5. Discuss preventive and therapeutic approaches, including orofunctional therapy and dental interventions, to promote optimal airway health and improve sleep quality in pediatric patients.
  6. Understand the significance of cardiovascular health screening for atherosclerosis in primary care and dental settings.
  7. Explore the role of CIMT testing in early detection and risk stratification of atherosclerosis.
  8. Identify potential challenges and limitations of CIMT testing and strategies for its effective implementation in clinical settings.
  9. Understand why PCPs need to understand the interconnectedness between oral health, gut microbiota, and systemic health. Gums and gut are connected!
  10. Examine the role of gingipains, enzymes produced by oral bacteria, in systemic inflammation and disease.
  11. Discuss 4 strategies for assessing systemic and oral health to improve overall systemic health outcomes and practice profits (salivary diagnostics, advanced lipids, “fire” panel and home sleep study)
  12. Explore the role of host-derived small extracellular vesicles in connecting Oral microbiome and Alzheimer’s disease.
  13. Understand the relationship between Westernized diets and the development of various chronic diseases, including heart disease, cancer, overweight, metabolic disease, dental caries, and malocclusion.
  14. Discuss public health strategies and policy initiatives aimed at promoting healthier dietary patterns and reducing the burden of diet-related chronic diseases.

Exhibit Space:  All exhibitor booths are located right outside the lecture hall along the back wall.  Electrical outlets are available close to these tables.  The exhibit space is a main through way into a back entrance of the hospital.  It is recommended to always have one representative at the table.  All snacks and drinks for the morning and break will be near the exhibitors.  Lunch pick-up will be located leading into the lunch and learn lecture room located to the side of the main lecture hall.  

Company Representatives are welcome to enter the lecture hall and attend any of the lectures but must not have any attire or belongings with company or product logos.  This is required to stay in compliance with continuing education rules of for the seminar.
