The course will address various therapeutic, percutaneous and surgical interventions available for cardiovascular disease. Attendees will gain knowledge of current tertiary heart and cardiovascular care.

Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to:

  1. Develop a systematic approach to evaluating acute cardiac symptoms including palpitations, syncope, and chest pain from initial assessment to appropriate referral.
  2. Apply current evidence-based strategies for cardiovascular risk factor management including hypertension, lipid disorders, and preventive cardiology interventions.
  3. Implement contemporary management strategies for atrial fibrillation including rate control, rhythm control, anticoagulation, and risk factor modification.
  4. Recognize signs of heart failure progression in both preserved and reduced ejection fraction and coordinate appropriate specialist care for advanced therapies.
  5. Utilize advanced diagnostic modalities including coronary CTA, EKG pattern recognition, and artificial intelligence tools to enhance clinical decision-making.
  6. Apply current diagnostic and treatment algorithms for valvular heart disease including aortic stenosis, mitral regurgitation, and tricuspid regurgitation.
  7. Recognize and manage infiltrative cardiomyopathies and understand cardiovascular complications in special populations including cancer patients.
  8. Evaluate myocardial infarction with non-obstructive coronary arteries (MINOCA) and understand the brain-heart axis in cardiovascular disease.
  9. Discuss the role of minimally invasive cardiac surgery and transcatheter interventions in contemporary cardiovascular care.

4.4.1 General Provisions

(Last Modified February 7, 2022)

Lodging expenses for hotels/motels outside Georgia may exceed the maximum reasonable rates set by an institution. Employees traveling out-of-state should refer to the federal per diem rates to identify high-cost areas of the United States, and to determine whether higher expenses are “reasonable and customary”. Use the Link to GSA Per Diem Rates tab in SAO’s Statewide Travel Policy website to access per diem rates for Out of State travel.

Note: The rates published by the federal government should only be used as a guide to determine whether an expense is “reasonable and customary.”

Lowest reasonable lodging expenses, resulting in the best value for the USG will be reimbursed. All lodging claims must be documented with receipts and must be at a business that offers lodging to the general public, such as a hotel or motel, NOT a private residence. Airbnb, VRBO, ByOwner, and any other providers of private residences for short term rental are not considered commercial lodging facilities and should not be used while in travel status.
